This is the in-between stretch of the year, when the aspens have dropped their gold, the bike racks look a little lonelier and everyone in the valley is glancing up at the peaks and quietly doing the math on opening day. Shoulder season has its own rhythm. The crowds thin out, the locals reclaim their favorite bar stools, and the calendar fills with the kind of gatherings that feel made for neighbors.

Saturday is the big night, and Glenwood Springs is where much of it happens. The annual ski-season ritual returns with Warren Miller's 77th film, Days Off, at the Glenwood Vaudeville Revue on Saturday, Nov. 7. Earlier that day, the Glenwood Springs Branch Library hosts Persistence and Grit: The Lives of Colorado Women Homesteaders with author and historian Gail Beaton, plus its weekly yoga class in Spanish. Up valley, Beach Weather is on the bill at Belly Up Aspen, and Basalt's Roaring Fork Club hosts The Taste: Longhorn Legacy.

On Sunday, the Aspen Art Museum offers a Spanish-language museum tour. Basalt carries much of the weekday load. The Basalt Regional Library hosts a Soup Social on Monday. On Wednesday, the library holds a Holiday Grief Gathering, a thoughtful offering as the season of family get-togethers approaches. TACAW in Willits hosts Schooltime Performances on Tuesday and Wednesday, and MISTER G is also on the Wednesday calendar there.

Carbondale gets its turn midweek, when Phat Thai hosts the CAIC Benefit Party on Wednesday, Nov. 11. With winter on the way, it's a timely one. Then the week winds down on Friday, Nov. 13, with a choice of moods. Glenwood Caverns Adventure Park hosts its Friday Afternoon Club, while True Nature in Carbondale offers a Sound Journey with Dr. Zachary and Krista Cashin for anyone who would rather end the week lying down.
